This page lists every tool the MCP Server offers. Agents read the full description and input schema of each tool from the server, so you do not need to pass these names in prompts. They are useful for understanding what an agent did, or for calling the server from your own scripts.
Common Rules
These rules apply to every tool:
Open project: Simulation tools work on the open project. On the Home Screen they return No project simulation is open.
Editing while reset: Tools that change the simulation only run while it is reset. Otherwise they return The simulation must be reset before objects or initial conditions can be changed.
IDs: Objects, components, models, behaviors, power buses, messages, and events are identified by GUIDs. Listing tools return them.
Units: Positions are in meters, times in seconds, and rotations in degrees, unless a tool says otherwise.
Names: Tool names are not case-sensitive. Class, model, behavior, and message names accept several forms, such as NadirPointingSoftware or Nadir Pointing.
Errors: A tool that cannot complete a request returns an error result with the reason, and the request is logged as a warning in the Console Panel. Nothing is changed by a rejected request.
In the tables below, Any time tools can be called while the simulation is running, paused, or reset. Reset tools change the simulation and need it reset.
Simulation
Tool
Purpose
Allowed
simulation_state
Report the state, time, requested and achieved speed, duration, step size, epoch, and UTC date.
Any time
simulation_controls
Start, pause, stop, or reset, and set speed, duration, pause at duration, and step size.
Any time

simulation_database
Report or change database recording and its sample interval.
Read any time, change while reset
simulation_save
Write the simulation to a .json simulation file.
Any time
simulation_export
Export the whole Studio project to a .zen file. Counts as saving the project.
Any time, mid-run exports keep the state from before the run
simulation_load
Replace the simulation with a .json simulation file.
Reset
project_info
Report or change the project’s name, description, and categories. Changes are unsaved until the project is saved.
Read and change description or categories any time, rename while reset

Variables
Tool
Purpose
Allowed
variable_list
List an object’s variables with their types and whether they are read-only.
Any time
