This is a simple scenario and only contains one event that with disrupt spacecraft control. Teams in this scenario will learn to control their spacecraft, manage power, analyze data and cryptography to find clues hidden around the scenario. Participants can then put in their answers in a form which a template will be provided.

This guide will help hosts understand the scenario, how it’s currently setup and how to customize it.

WARNING

This page is for Space Range session hosts only. Participants should instead read Operator.

Finding words on the Earth

In the scenario, participants will need to have their spacecraft point at a location on the Earth and take a photo of a word. In the form there is a riddle that they will need to answer to get the clue.

After solving the riddle, you will find that the first word is located at Latitude of 0 and Longitude of 150. Participants will need to use the operator terminal and put in Location pointing mode in the Guidance ADCS section and execute it’s guidance.

Once the spacecraft is over the location, the participants will then need to tweak the settings in the Images > Camera Capture section then click Execute Capture to have the spacecraft capture the photo. They will then need to click Execute Downlink to download and the the photo. They will then need to repeat until they can get a clear photo of the word. The main setting to change is the Field of View to control the zoom level. Below are the settings used to take the a photo of the first word.

After taking a photo of the word, the text is encrypted and users will need to decrypt them. The first word is encrypted simply by having the flag spelt backwards. In this case )LORR(GALF becomes FLAG(ROLL).

After solving all the questions it will lead the participants to point at a specific location using the flags answers and the location they found some of them in. In the current state it is pointing to the stars however you could modify this point to another planet.

Scenario Event(s)

At simulation time of 10,800s or 3hrs in, the EM sensor will break. However this event doesn’t currently work.
