A working Studio simulation is not automatically a working Space Range exercise. Audit every spacecraft that participants will operate.
Checking the required systems
For a basic operator workflow, each controllable spacecraft should have:
| System | Typical component | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Computing | Guidance Computer or Computer | Processes commands and control behavior |
| Uplink | Receiver | Receives team commands |
| Downlink | Transmitter | Sends responses and telemetry |
| Data | Storage | Holds data for downlink |
| Power generation | Solar Panel | Generates power |
| Power storage | Battery | Supplies power outside generation |
| Attitude control | Reaction Wheels | Supports pointing tasks |
Add payloads needed by the brief, such as a Camera, GPS Sensor, electromagnetic sensor, jammer, thruster, or docking adapter.
The existing Spacecraft Simulation tutorial does not necessarily add Receiver, Transmitter, Storage, or Battery. Add them before conversion if operators need the standard communications flow.
Checking component names
Space Range commands and events address components by name. Confirm that names are:
- unique within each spacecraft
- understandable to operators
- stable
- consistent with the brief and event targets
Rename ambiguous components before writing questions or events.
Checking the ground network
The project needs at least one valid ground station for Space Range to create the expected ground-controller path.
Confirm:
- a station exists in the scene
- its location is configured
- required communications components exist
- the spacecraft has realistic access opportunities
- the first station in the Space Range station order is suitable as the primary station
Checking the simulation timeline
Confirm:
- the epoch produces the intended lighting and geometry
- the scenario duration covers all tasks
- the selected speed is practical for participants
- reset returns the correct initial state
Checking persistence
Save the project while the simulation is reset. Create a backup with Save As before conversion.
WARNING
Pressing Play can lock editing controls until reset. Make every Space Range assignment from the reset state, then save again.
Readiness gate
Do not continue until:
- the ordinary Studio mission works
- the operator hardware exists
- component names are final
- at least one ground station exists
- the project is saved and backed up
